Beyond Digital: Why 35mm film is a timeless addition to your wedding photos!

So you've planned your perfect wedding so far, but have you noticed the trend on 35mm photography? Surely you've seen it on instagram. Everyone in my world is doing it, and it's funny because usually I am not into trends, but this is a boat I have already been in for many years. Read my blog post to learn about why capturing your Wedding in 35mm Film is timeless & something you won't regret.

Unlike digital photography, film captures light in a way that imbues your photos with a unique warmth and a subtle, organic grain that whispers authenticity. It's like viewing your wedding through a rose-tinted lens, where every detail – from the delicate lace on your gown to the crinkled laughter lines of your grandparents – is imbued with a timeless charm. You may notice my digital photography is edited to try and emulate this timeless look, but let's be honest - it's not the same. Read below for my tips.

Five Reasons to include 35mm Film to your Wedding Photography

  • Romantic Aesthetics: Imagine flipping through your wedding album years from now, and the photographs evoke a sense of romance and nostalgia. 35mm film adds a dreamy, ethereal quality to your images. It's important to note to any potential couples that my digital photography is shot and edited for this same feel. If I know you're really into the 35mm film look, I will shoot with my lens filters, shoot with a blur, add grain, etc.
  • Artistic Expression: I find that analogue film is easier to shoot 'in the moment', as guests don't feel intimated by large & loud digital cameras. I have a small point & shoot that I use at most weddings for the moments such as getting ready, the ceremony, guests mingling, & your reception/party. I love the end results too, with the soft tones, rich colours, and subtle grain adding depth and character to your photographs. I shoot on Kodak Portra 400 Film and it's developed at a local Melbourne Film Lab.
  • Timeless Elegance: Trends come and go, but the timeless elegance of analogue film remains unrivalled. Whether it's capturing the delicate lace of your gown or the joyous tears in your loved ones' eyes, film photography ensures that your memories stand the test of time. Have you seen your parents wedding album? Or your Grandparents? Well I have, and I love the vintage feel and energy in them. If this is your vibe, I am your girl.
  • Intimate Connection: There's an intimate connection between the photographer, the subject, and the medium when shooting with film. The deliberate process of composing each shot, coupled with the anticipation of waiting for the film to be developed, fosters a deeper appreciation for the art of photography. I have found my couples who I have shot rolls of film with have continuously said that 'they were their favourite moments of the day!'
  • Authenticity: In a world inundated with filters and digital manipulations, analogue film offers a refreshing authenticity. Each photograph is a true representation of the moment it captures, free from the distractions of digital enhancements. Bye bye to instagram filters!!!! I think this is why it's such a hit, people believe it's authenticity.

So, why should you include 35mm analogue film in your wedding photography? Because it's more than just photography—it's a celebration of love, art, and the timeless beauty of analog craftsmanship. It adds a feeling you will adore to your Wedding Album in the years to come.

I am a wedding photographer who will go above and beyond to ensure your experience from start to finish is wonderful. I include 35mm film in all of my packages. I hope you found some wisdom in this blog post & reach out to me if I can help you in your Wedding Planning either way! Love Cass x
